                              Neuroscience and Brain Technologies

Currently, I am postdoctoral researcher at Center for Regenerative Therapies Dresden (CTRD) and   TU-Dresden at  neural cell type and circuit engineering lab  working with Prof . Volker Busskamp. The major goal is to   engineer functional human neuronal circuits by combining advances in cellular neuroscience (Human derived induced pluripotent stem cells  hiPSCs, and optogenetics) and bioengineering (microfluidics, multielectrode array electrophysiology and advanced optical tools) to generate the brain mimetic electrically active neuronal networks from adult human stem cells. The final goal is to understand information processing in engineered neural circuits and model neurological disorders in vitro.

Before joining Busskamp lab, I worked at IUF - Leibniz Research Institute for Environmental Medicine (2017) to construct 3D brain-mimetic tissue using three-dimensional bioplotter (EnvisionTEC) and human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) . I was also Postdoc at iit (2015-2016), in which I collaborated on the European project “Graphtivity”, aiming at the development of a graphene-enhanced surface plasmon resonance imaging (SPRi) sensor for biomedical and neuroscience applications.

I accomplished my PhD (2012-2015) on Neuroscience and Brain Technologies under the supervision of Dr. Axel Blau at IIT (Italian Institute of Technology & University of Genova, Italy). My PhD was mainly about design, fabrication and validation of microfluidic devices with applications on neurobiology and electrophysiology. I combined microelectrode arrays (MEA) electrophysiology with miniaturized and thin polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) chips to create patterned 3D neuronal networks on MEA substrates, to amplify the extracellular activity recorded from growing axons inside the microtunnels, and to produce controlled damage on microchannel‐confined axons using laser microdissection.

I completed a MSc degree in Human Physiology at Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS, Iran, 2002-2006). For the master thesis and later in collaboration with Physiology Research Center at Iran University of Medical Sciences (2006-2011), I mainly focused on in vivo ischemia reperfusion injury models on different organs (brain, kidney, skin and skeletal muscle) and studied downstream molecular pathways involved in tissue tolerance against oxidative stress.  Also as a part-time researcher in Nano Vichar Pharmaceutical Ltd (Tehran, Iran) and Center for Research and Training in Skin Diseases and Leprosy (CRTSDL, Tehran, Iran), I designed and implementated clinical trials for skin diseases (2007-2011).
